"I always wanted to take care of people; it's why I studied healthcare. I wanted to bring better representation into the healthcare sector," Marie explains, reflecting on her initial career path. This revelation prompted her shift into the field of anesthesiology, where she could contribute to a more inclusive healthcare sector.

In 2021, Marie took a bold step by launching SAPPHIRE DIAMONDS, a clothing brand that echoes her commitment to inclusivity. The brand is not just about fashion; it is a celebration of diversity and a stand against colorism. Marie was motivated by a disheartening encounter in a fabric store, where she was told, "you're pretty for a dark-skinned girl." Determined to challenge such stereotypes, she embarked on the creation of the SAPPHIRE DIAMOND AWARDS, recognizing community members making impactful strides in socio-economic initiatives.

Marie's advocacy against colorism reached new heights with the MELANIN project. Comprising a documentary, book, and lifestyle brand, MELANIN aims to demystify colorism and promote positive narratives surrounding skin pigmentation. "Being able to build and create the MELANIN project has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life," Marie explains.
