As 2020 unfolded, April watched others around her take control of their lives, creating businesses, finding purpose, and leaving their mark on the world. Meanwhile, she sat on the sidelines, unsure of how to shape her future. A heart-to-heart conversation with a close friend became the pivotal moment when she realized she could no longer afford to waste time. That’s when her journey truly began.
“It’s easy to watch everybody else create businesses and find their happiness, but when your reality has been one way for so long, how do you switch the mindset?” April recalls. The answer, she discovered, lay in taking control of her own narrative. In 2021, she decided to become a content creator, documenting her experiences and thoughts in a raw, unfiltered way.
April’s initial foray into content creation came from a place of wanting to share her life and voice with others who, like her, were searching for a sense of belonging. “I had just started getting into internet radio, and I was recording YouTube videos. I felt like I had something to say for the girls like me who were looking for someone else to say it for them,” April explains. Little did she know, a chance encounter during an outing with friends would shift her trajectory completely.
This encounter led to her joining Media Girls Network, one of the most prominent media companies in Atlanta. The experience became a game-changer for April, giving her the opportunity to cultivate relationships, build an impressive résumé, and unlock doors to new ventures. “Media Girls Network taught me the business side of being a media personality. It let me see the behind-the-scenes of the things that really matter and helped me get into rooms where I could network and build my net worth.”
During her time at Media Girls Network, April crossed paths with Shenelle Simone, and together they created one of Atlanta’s most recognizable podcasts, Flew Here, Grew Here. Although they had worked alongside each other previously, the duo had yet to realize their shared potential. Both hailing from Brooklyn and possessing a fierce determination to succeed in the media space, they found common ground and a shared vision, launching a podcast that would quickly gain attention for its authenticity and energy.
Since then, April B. has become a media powerhouse. From hosting events around the world to interviewing some of the entertainment industry’s top celebrities, her star has continued to rise. But for April, it’s not just about the fame or the accolades—it’s about walking the path she always knew she was destined for.
“I didn’t fall in love with media two days ago,” April reflects. “I remember watching shows like 106 & Park and TRL and thinking to myself, ‘I could do that.’ I wanted to bring the same energy and passion to an industry that had given me so much, from music to entertainment and more.”
